“Flipside: Crossing Kids” was formed in 2002 to support and encourage kids in all their creative endeavors. Throughout the year Flipside offers youth art programming for children of all ages. Ongoing Second Saturday monthly youth art classes are co-sponsored by ISD 181 Commmunity Ed at Franklin Arts Center cafeteria from 10 to noon. Semi-annual themed “Arty Parties” make art activities fun for all. A spring youth art exhibit titled “Celebrating the Young at Art” affirms artistic talent and efforts. Selected youth art is professionally framed and publically displayed at the Brainerd YMCA. Each year, a $500 scholarship is awarded to a graduating senior who is pursuing arts in a post-secondary school. Flipside reviews and responds to other organizations. For example, in 2010 a series of origami workshops were held to support Kinship kids and their partners. Please contact The Crossing if you are interested in volunteering or for more information.

Our activities are funded, in part, by the Minnesota arts and heritage fund as appropriated by the Minnesota State Legislature with money from the vote of the people of Minnesota on November 4, 2008; and a grant from Alpha Delta Kappa.
