About the Artist

Joey Halvorson is a freelance photographer based in the Brainerd lakes area. She's been published in the Lake Country Journal Magazine, IQ, Brainerd Dispatch, Her Voice, and Arts for the Senses. Joey was selected as The Crossing Arts Alliance Photographer of the Year in 2007. Her passion and commitment for sharing her images of people and other living creatures endear her to those who are fortunate enough to know her.

Joey's recent trip to Haiti on a medical mission* shortly after the devastating earthquake was a life-changing experience. Joey was able to artistically capture this segment of time and place through photography. The remarkable contrast between a natural disaster, which obviously caused pain and suffering; and happiness and joy brought about by simple connections and offers of help are something to behold. The value of sharing this artistic contrast with those geographically removed from Haiti, yet closely tied by human spirit, is beyond measure. Viewers are humbled by this gripping series of photographs. Joey's Haiti photographs give us pause and cause us to reflect.
