A review of Picturing 2010 by Nancy Leasman.
The Picturing event included 12 days of photographic exhibitions and one day of workshops culminating in honoring photographer of the year, Dave Boran. Boran is the tenth photographer to receive the annual distinction. Workshops, with presenters, Doug Beasley, John Linn, Biff Ulm, Stephen Bye, and Peter Wong, were held on Saturday, March 27, from 9 to 4:45. Topics included digital photography, camera techniques, lighting, and more. The reception was from 5:00 to 7:00.
District 12A Representative John Ward took part in the festivities and officially greeted the crowd as did Minnesota Citizens for the Arts Executive Director Sheila Smith.
"Five Wings funds make a huge difference to The Crossing Arts Alliance and are greatly appreciated," said Crossing Arts Alliance Artist Director Millie Engisch-Morris.
Catherine Stoch, Five Wings Arts Council Board President, noted that the Picturing event was a great success as is the general functioning of the Alliance. "...the programs are strong, the events gorgeous, well attended, interesting! What a SHOW!?" she said in a note to Millie Engisch-Morris.
Crossing Arts Alliance receives Big Check from Five Wings Arts Council
Catherine Stoch and Laura Busch, representing the Five Wings Arts Council board of directors, presented a "Big Check" for $17,308 to the Crossing Arts Alliance on Saturday, March 27. The presentation was in conjunction with the Picturing 2010 artists' reception at the Q Gallery in the Franklin Arts Center in Brainerd. The funds, designated for continuing operational support, are a percentage of the Crossing Arts annual budget and were generated through the Legacy Amendment.
The Crossing Arts Alliance, a nonprofit organization founded in 2000, works to promote and enhance arts opportunities in the central lakes area.

Plan to attend the Crossing Arts Alliance's next major show, Salute to the Arts, an annual juried exhibit that will be on display from June 4th to July 10th, 2010 also at the Q Gallery in the Franklin Arts Center. This exhibit will feature new work: visual art, music, writing, and performance art created after June 4 of 2009.
