JUNE Second saturday

- June 8 -

Join us for Second Saturday events at TCAA!

10-11:30 and 12-1:30

Kids will be learning about Graphic Design, with instructors Sarah and Dustin from Lakes Printing. Topics of design layout and presentation when creating artwork for others will be covered, and kids will get to create a poster, postcard, or button. This class is sponsored by Lakes Printing.

Pre-registration is required for this class. REGISTER HERE

If you need to cancel after you have registered, PLEASE contact us at 218-833-0416 to let us know so we can give your space to another child who may be on the waiting list. $3 per child/$5 per family material fee requested, no child is turned away due to need. Located in our classroom at 711 Laurel St, downtown Brainerd.

10Am TO 12PM

Meet our featured Member Artist, Karen Smith. Working in the medium of alcohol inks, Karen's work focuses on the infinite energy in all things. The movement and flow within her work can be seen in the beautiful patterns that are created when the inks finally settle. She paints intuitively and gets lost in the vibrant colors that are incorporated into her pieces, often being surprised by the time that has passed creating them. View some of her pieces on display, talk with her, and learn more about the process for creating her artwork.

10Am TO 2PM

In our gallery, our current exhibition, 'The Prince Cherrywood Challenge', an exhibition of art quilts will be on display. Featuring a room full of 20-inch quilt squares using all the same purple fabric and inspired by Prince and the huge legacy he left behind. You will see Purple Rain, Raspberry Beret, Little Red Corvette, When Doves Cry, Paisley Park, First Avenue and countless other references to Prince’s life, music and home. The variety and techniques used are incredible, and you will want to study each one more closely after taking in the whole collection.

Worldwide knit in public day

- June 8 -

Knitters! Join us for worldwide knit in public day on Saturday June 8th from 11-3pm in downtown Brainerd.

We will meet in the parking lot on Laurel Street, next to Sage. Bring a comfy chair, sunscreen, and your knitting. Pack a lunch or take advantage of one of the several downtown restaurants.

Coffee will be provided. There is no fee to join, just come out and enjoy the company of other fiber workers. Lisa Jordan will have her mobile felting studio there too. In the case of rain, knitters are invited to join us at The Crossing Arts Alliance classroom at 711 Laurel St from 1 to 3pm for an abbreviated KIP day.

Worldwide Knit in Public Day was founded in 2005 as a way for knitters to come together and enjoy each other’s company. Knitting is such a solitary act that it’s easy to knit alone somewhere and sink into your work without thinking about all the other knitters out there. Neighbors could spend all their lives never knowing that the other knits. This a specific day to get out of your house and go to a local event (with your knitting in tow) just for you and people like you.
